A very contemplative book- little action, interesting characters, beautiful writing.

A Death in the Family - James Agee, Steve Earle

Not a lot of action, but interesting characters, and a convincing picture of American life in 1915. I can see why this is a classic though... the writing is very powerful, and a great example of how a good writer shows instead of tells.

As far as reading enjoyment goes... well, three stars is about all I can muster. This is one of those books that is probably edifying to HAVE read, and maybe interesting to talk about, but the actual read is not exactly an edge-of-your-seat experience. Probably good for book clubs, and decent to assign for a class.
