There's no debating that the Beatnicks had an intriguing style, and Jack Kerouac is one of their holiest of holies, but Dharma Bums still leaves me unimpressed. They were basically bums, travelling aimlessly around, mooching off of friends and strangers, etc.. There's nothing heroic or even interesting about these characters, even though they are proffered as the forefront of an erupting new post-war culture. I don't know. I just don't feel it.
