Modern Tyrants

Modern Tyrants - Daniel Chirot I found this book very frustrating, as it is really just an exercise in taxonomy, focused on classifying and categorizing various dictators according to their dogma and degrees of corruption. The book completely skirts the much more significant questions of how these goblins came to power, and how to prevent future tyrants from terrorizing our civilization. Along those lines, I would point out that author Daniel Chirot left out the most telling classification of modern dictators: their relationship with Western central bankers. Since most 20th century tyrannies have deep ties to international banking, and many got their initial funding from these banks, Modern Tyrants is like a medical textbook which describes lung cancer in great detail, and forgets to mention the link to smoking!
