This is a book about angst, self-doubt, and the uncertain future. A history professor specializing in Adolf Hitler tries to hide the fact that he can't speak German. An accident at a chemical plant sends a cloud of toxic gas into the atmosphere. All the plot lines speak to some sort of insecurity in modern life. If you're reading this book to hear a story, you will probably finish the last page and say "What the hell?". If you like to read books just because they make you think about things, you will probably continue to enjoy White Noise long after you finish it.
