The House of God: The Classic Novel of Life and Death in an American Hospital

The House of God - Samuel Shem, John Updike A lot of reviews treat this book like it is a realistic account of residency. It's not, and I don't think it was intended to be- it is mostly parody, with a few somber moments thrown in. The humor feels a little forced at times, but it may just be dated. In any case, the book is much better than the movie.
