Kim (Classic, 20th-Century, Penguin) - Rudyard Kipling This may be the progenitor work of the entire spy/political intrigue genere. Once again Kipling shows us a vision of India in the 1800's which is just almost beyond belief: incredibly diverse, a curious mix of the very new and very old, a mish-mash of so many cultures and religions and countless centuries of history the reader can hardly take it all in. Thoroughly satisfying.
