Speculative fiction- this time exploring "What if Germany had won World War II?" The story is set in the 1990's, fifty years into the Third Reich. Harry Turtledove likes to write with a broad scope, exploring the worlds he creates with a large number of characters -whose plot lines frequently converge at the end. He delivers on most of the basic questions you might wonder: What is life like in America?, How does technology progress under the Third Reich, and to what use is it put?, What happened between war allies Germany and Japan? etc, etc. Overall, the story is solid and internally logical. I only wish Turtledove would elaborate on why the fascist Nazi government in this novel became more liberal over time.
